Pilgrim Info
The goal of our Ignatian Experiment is:
- - To deepen our relationship with God (MAGiS!)
- - To encounter individuals from other cultures and to grow together in faith
- - To form habits of reaching out to the disadvantaged
The pilgrim’s attitude:
- Open to encounter new things
- Ready to embark upon a spiritual journey
- Prepared to enter fully into the international experiment groups
Other details:
- Participants are expected to engage in all parts of the program
- MAGiS09 Africa is an alcohol-free program
- Men and women will sleep in different quarters
The pilgrim’s experiment:
You may have to change your locations. Likewise, you may be required to travel several
kilometers on foot with your entire luggage. Therefore, you should limit what you
bring, and you should pack it in such a way that allows you to carry it over long periods.
We strongly encourage you to use a large backpack, not a suitcase.
Practical Details
Passport and visa
It is recommended that you obtain a visa before traveling.

However, it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi
, at no extra fee. Make sure you have the visa fee in the correct amount if you choose to apply at the airport.

Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your intended date of departure.
Health Recommendations
Vaccination against the Yellow Fever virus and treatment with anti-malarial tablets (zone 3: Malarone) are necessary. Information can be found at sites such as: www.fco.gov.uk and mdtravelhealth.com.
It is a good idea to ask your doctor to prescribe for you the basic medicines needed for any sub-equatorial journey, and to take with you paracetamol, anti-diarrhoea medicine, disinfectant for the skin, and eye drops.
Insurance
You MUST have travel health insurance which includes repatriation.
Checklist
- Passport and other personal identification (Including photocopies)
- Health insurance card
- Pencil, note book and Bible
- Good walking shoes that could be used for long distances
- Raincoat
- Sun hat & Sun block or suntan lotion
- Sleeping bag and mat
- Personal toiletries, including washcloth and towel
- Water flask
- Torch
We encourage you to bring:
- > a musical instrument If you play one
- > Your national flag and a symbol of your country
- > an alb and stole (Priests)
Important:
- Only bring a large backpack and not a suitcase
- Pack lightly

You do not need: Tents, pots, utensils, plates, or cups.
